Many fans were nervous when Audi released the third-generation A3 back in 2012, purely because the previous model was so well received, we felt it didn’t need to be changed. We needn’t have worried, however, as the German manufacturer managed to make valuable improvements, while retaining everything that made drivers fall in love with the Audi A3 in the first place.

Performance
The Audi A3 is now lighter than ever, offering fantastic handling and three levels of suspension. There is a variety of petrol and diesel engine options on offer, the most popular being the 2.0-litre diesel, which is capable of achieving 62mph in just 8.6 seconds.

Despite the fact that the latest version of the Audi A3 is slightly wider and longer, it dropped around 80kg of weight, thanks to the Volkswagen Group MQB platform. On the inside, the vehicle is spacious and offers plenty of advanced technology.
Ownership
Fuel consumption will depend on the engine you choose, but the lightweight structure helps to keep CO2 emissions and tax bills low. The 2.0 diesel emits 108g/k, just a few more grams than the 1.6. The e-tron is also available and reduces running costs further still.
