Mini John Cooper Works review
If you are considering buying one of our used Mini John Cooper Works cars, read on to find out more…
For the third generation of John Cooper Works hatch, Mini have upped the ante with a move to BMW’s 2.0 litre turbocharged engine. Providing power and noise in abundance.
As a result, the new JCW trumps its predecessor by 10 percent on peak power and 23 percent on torque. In addition to a power increase, new pistons have been added to increase reliability and a new exhaust system adds in an array of pops and bangs too. Like the previous Mini GP, the John Cooper Works does without a mechanical limited-slip differential; instead opting for a torque vectoring system instead.
The front suspension gets uprated springs and dampers, strengthened and lightened supports and wishbones, new tube-shaped anti-roll bars, lightweight support bearings and triple-path strut mounts. The multi-link rear suspension has also been lightened and toughened up. Variable Damper Control was available as a cost extra from the factory, this system allows the driver to firm the ride up when they’re really attacking back roads.
As for the rest of the standard equipment - there is an aggressive body kit, rear spoiler, DAB radio, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, cruise control and sports suspension. The Chill Pack is a popular pack to add on from the factory, this adds climate control, velour floor mats and automatic wipers and lights. The Tech Pack adds even more features such as parking sensors, a reversing camera and a Harman & Kardon stereo.
The Mini John Cooper Works hatch is a multi-talented hatch, not only can it keep up with most cars in its price range, it also features an attractive and intuitive interior and head turning looks from every angle. The JCW also holds its showroom value well, owing to its high build quality and overall desirability.
