VW Golf review

If you are considering buying one of our used Volkswagen Golf cars, read on to find out more…

The Volkswagen Golf has consistently been one of the most popular cars in Europe since it was introduced to the market in 1975.

The VW Golf dominates the heartland of the market for compact family cars, its semi-premium positioning gives it an edge, as it undercuts the likes of the Mercedes A-Class and BMW 1 Series on price, while placing above the Skoda Octavia and Ford Focus in terms of build quality and status. There are few cars that do as much as the Golf and do it as well.

The Volkswagen Golf is so popular partly because of the level of choice the customer has, the pre-facelift MK7 Golf was the first passenger car on the market to be available in petrol, diesel, plug0in hybrid and full-electric forms. Add to that 4 wheel drive options, manual and DSG gearboxes, and 4 body styles and you have a car that can appeal to pretty much every taste.

On our broken roads, having a car that rides well is crucial to driving enjoyment. Thankfully, the Golf absorbs, isolates and glides over Britain’s battered roads with grace and skill. Although the German hatchback leaves you numb to broken surfaces and potholes, you still receive a decent amount of feedback from the chassis and far more body control than the supple ride would lead you to expect.

As you’d expect, the Golf is thoroughly thought out inside. Firstly, there’s plenty of room for 5 adults, visibility is spot on and there’s near-endless storage. The Active info display that replaces your conventional dials is clear and well thought out, as is the Discover pro 8-inch nav screen. While you do lose the physical buttons that surrounded the old system, the final look is far cleaner and still does its job.
