Audi A3 plug in hybrid review
The Audi A3 is a popular model in its own right, but now it has introduced the plug in hybrid version, which is set to fly off forecourts when it is released into the wild this year. Currently available for pre-orders, this is a hybrid car with a difference, and here is why…
Let’s start with the basics, in how the car actually runs. You can run the car on electric alone which is handy for the eco-conscious, but there is a 1.4litre petrol engine built in too, to give you that extra bit of range or power that you are looking for.
From 0-62mph in a mere 7.6 seconds, this car is hot off the mark and plenty of fun to drive, as you would expect from an Audi. There are three ways to drive; EV, hybrid and battery hold, here is what they mean. Ev gets the electric to do all the work and it can achieve between 15-20 miles on a charge. Hybrid uses a mic of petrol and electric to do the driving, while battery hold harnesses the petrol engine and keeps the battery charged.
A little heavier to drive due to the batteries on board, you will notice this in the handling of the car, but not in an unpleasant way, we don’t think. It is still great fun to drive and hugs the corners of the road well, with capabilities of tackling country roads and city drives alike.
The interior is plush while maintaining a minimalistic look to coincide with the electric element of the vehicle. There are plenty of options for seating to find that perfect driving spot, and there is a seven inch screen that raised out of the dashboard to house your infotainment system.
Cost wise, it isn’t cheap, but we do think it could be worth it. With a starting price of around £27K, increasing for different trims and specs, it is an investment, for sure. If you are considering a hybrid vehicle, always check for Government grants that may be available.
