Driving in the rain

Speed

Take care with your speed when driving in the rain. Stopping distances are dramatically affected by wet conditions on the roads so it is always better to take it a little or a lot slower than you usually would when rainfall is on the ground.

Braking

Braking should be done so carefully and avoid braking suddenly unless it is necessary. As we mentioned, your stopping distances will be different so it is important to take note of this.

Distance

Keep your distance between you and the vehicle in front. You cannot predict their stopping habits or whether or not they are alert so best to keep a good distance to keep yourself and them safe when you are driving.

Visibility

Make sure your windscreen wipers are on as well as your headlights so you increase the visibility you have. Rain can alter your sense of vision and so it is important you do everything you can to aid this.
